How to plan a Google Ads budget

There is no single right advertising budget for every business. Services, locations, search intent, measurement and capacity should be considered together.

Separate platform spend and management fees

Platform spend pays for advertising delivery; agency fees cover planning and management. Creative and landing-page work may be separate. During a Google Ads management discussion, agree services, coverage and review periods.

Choose a focused starting scope

Consider which services are ready to receive enquiries and whether the business can respond. Spreading a small budget across many services can limit learning. Keyword Planner forecasts can help planning but are not acquired-customer results.

Check measurement before evaluating clicks

A phone-button click is not necessarily a completed call. A WhatsApp opening is not necessarily a sent message. Read our conversion tracking guide and combine platform data with business feedback on qualified enquiries.

Increase spend after reviewing enquiry quality

Irrelevant searches, weak landing pages and slow replies can undermine more spending. If there are clicks but no customers, review the journey first. Google explains average daily budgets and spending limits by campaign type; daily spend may vary. Use the official documentation and the account’s own spending report.

Before you start

  • Separate spend and service fees.
  • Prioritise services and locations.
  • Verify conversion measurement.
  • Review enquiry quality before scaling.
